The expansion of Boise's geothermal heating system to Boise State University gets a boost. A $250,000 senate appropriations bill designated by a committee vote for use on the project will equip seven large buildings to use the technology. The change from traditional heating is expected to save the university as much as $400,000 a year.
Acer's pending acquisition of Gateway name brand and education business may increase its channel presence. However, John Spooner, a senior analyst at the Computer Business Quarterly division of Technology Business Research, a Hampton, N.H.-based consulting firm, said the professional business could be expected to go to smaller direct vendors such as MPC Computers, Nampa, Idaho, which might be looking to expand its channel.

Programs Promoting Safety & Partnerships Downtown are Working!
Boise, July 25, 2007 - Boise Police Chief Michael Masterson was joined by Boise Mayor David Bieter and the Executive Director of the Downtown Boise Association Karen Sander, in announcing a continued decline in downtown crime, a promising trend that shows safety means success.
"These statistics mean fewer people are falling victim to crime," said Chief Masterson. "They also show when we work together with the common goal of safeguarding the heart of our community, it works, and all of us, business owners, residents, customers and visitors all benefit."
At a time when more people than ever are coming to Downtown Boise for entertainment (according to CCDC parking figures), crime is decreasing.
Notably, an examination by Boise Police of the possible displacement impact of crime to adjoining...

Boise is one of just 11 communities in the United States to earn the prestigious honor this year
The West Boise Wastewater Treatment Plant has earned a Platinum Peak Performance Award, one of the highest honors in the wastewater field.
Platinum Awards are given annually by the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA). The award is the wastewater equivalent of winning an Emmy.
Boise is one of just 11 communities within the United States to receive the Platinum award this year. Communities earn a gold award if they go a full year with no violations of the Clean Water Act. A platinum award is given when a wastewater facility is awarded five straight gold awards.
Violations may include high levels of solid matter or bacteria when the cleaned/treated water is released into the Boise River.
Our lab does more than 8,000 mandatory tests of the wastewater each year. For the West Boise Treatment Plant to go five straight years without a violation is phenomenal, ...

Eagle Restaurant Expands to Serve Takeout Dinners
Why does a PGA Class A golf professional living in California, with no real professional cooking experience, end up in Eagle, preparing meals in a century-old house converted into a cafe?
If you are Marcy Anderson, owner of the Blue Moose Cafe and the recently opened Beside the Moose and Dinners To Go, you do it to fulfill a life-long dream.
Anderson, whose great-grandparents homesteaded the New Meadows Valley area, was born in Boise. She moved back to Eagle in 2000 to be near family.
"We were driving by this old house one day and I said I'd always dreamed of opening a restaurant in an old house," Anderson said. "It was a dream come true and has been a great ride ever since."
The Blue Moose Cafe, which opened seven years ago, offers a variety of sandwiches, wraps and salads and serves about 300 lunches daily. In June, Beside the Moose opened next door, featuring a...
