Christmas Tree Collection
SSC will collect Christmas tress for recycling during the week of January 4-8, 2008. Please remove all ornaments, tree stands, lights, and tinsel before setting the tree at the curb.  If you have a large tree, please cut it into sections no longer than 4 feet so it will fit into our truck.

SSC will collect your tree on your regular collection day and take it to the Ada County sanitary landfill, where it will be ground up into useful much.

Holiday Schedule
There is no delay in service for Martin Luther King Day or Presidents' Day.

Residential and commercial trash and recycling are not collected on a holiday when the Ada County sanitary landfill is closed. If your collection day falls before the holiday, your trash and recycling will be collected on your usual day. If your regular garbage day falls on or after the holiday, your garbage and recycling will be collected one day later that week.

The next holidays that will affect collection are:
Christmas Day - December 25
New year's Day - January 1

Quick Tips
-You can recycle wrapping (not foil paper) and boxes curbside (please cut boxes to 2 ft x 2 ft sections so they fit in our trucks).
-Meridian residents can recycle phone books year-round in the curbside recycling program.  Place your telephone directories in the same bag as your mixed paper.
-Please set your recycle bin out only when it is full.

Used Oil Recycling
Frying a turkey for the holidays and don't know what to do with the oil afterwards? You can recycle up to 2 gallons of used cooking oil or used motor oil per week outside. Oil to be recycled will be collected in a special pan under our trash trucks.

To assist our drivers, please place the oil in transparent plastic jugs and write "Used Oil" on the container.

Business Recycling Has Expanded
Businesses can now recycle tin and aluminum cans, magazines and catalogs, newspaper, and plastic containers in addition to mixed paper and corrugated cardboard.

In addition to keeping materials out of the landfill, businesses that recycle have less waster, resulting in reduced disposal fees.  SSC offers different container sized to best fit the needs of your company.

For more information on this program, contact Doug Mason at 412-3688.

Save A Trip To The Landfill
Rather than making the long drive to the landfill, residents and businesses can drip off items at our enclosed facility.

We have convenient hours - 8:00 A.M  to 6:00 P.M.
Monday though Friday and 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
Saturdays. We are closed Sundays and holidays.

Save your time and fuel expense by coming to the SSC transfer station, located behind the SSC main building. To access our transfer station, take Franklin Road to Ward Lane.

For more information or to set up an account, please call 888-3999.

Glass Recycling
SSC is not able to offer glass recycling to Meridian residents at this time, but we are continuing to look for ways to implement a glass recycling program in Meridian in the future.

If you would like to recycle your glass, you can take it to Boise Recycling at 4725 Glenwood, or Western Recycling at 1990 South Cole Road.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection
Common household items such as television sets, fluorescent lights, computer monitors, cleaners, pesticides, automotive fluids, batteries, and paints all contain hazardous chemicals. When in doubt, check the label - items labeled Danger, Warning, Caution, or Poison cannot be thrown in your trash.

Meridian residents can safely dispose of their household hazardous waste free of charge every Monday (except major holidays) between 12:00 noon and 7 P.M. in the SSC parking lot 2130 West Franklin Road (between Linder and Ten Mile).

Presentations Available
SSC offers presentations and classes on curbside recycling, household hazardous waste, paper making, and worm composting.

All of these presentations can be tailored to meet the particular size, needs, and age requirements of your group or classroom.

To schedule a talk, please call Symantha Miller at 888-3999.

Free Thermometers Still Available
Ada County residents can exchange old mercury fever thermometers for a free digital thermometer at any Household Hazardous Waste collection site in Ada County or at the SSC office.
